Casey James: If You Don’t Know By Now

Here’s an album of red meat for fans of Kenny Wayne Shepherd or Joe Bonamassa. Singer and guitarist Casey James releases a sophomore session to his 2017 Strip It Down for a mix of blues stomping and wailing rockiees. His voice sounds well traveled, as if he’s been singing on highway 10 with the top down, while his guitar work lays out some rich riffs on the gutbucket “Real” and getting pretty lyrical on ”Here To Please”. The drums snap to the boggie-ing “Come On Saturday Night” and the horns strut and sway to the Ray Charles-ish A Better Place”. Lots of swampy atmospheres and low ceiling juked joints, with James occasionally using the slide like Rickey Henderson on the Allman  Brothersy “A Better Place” or hitting it on the sweet spot down the power alley on “Shake Some Sal” . A solid sequel.
