Butcher Brown : #Kingbutch

That center of the jazz world, Richmond, Virginia, is home to the team of KJ Harrison/key-dj, Corey Fonville/dr, Andrew Randazzo/b, Marcus “Tennishu” Tenny/ts-tp-MC and  Morgan Burrs/g. The band creates sounds that are reminiscent of vintage 70s funk jams like Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters or Mwandishi band, but adding a dash of modern rap and hip hop.

Randazzo and Harrison lay down rap verse with some funky wacka wooka guitar riffs on “Funkadelica”  as well over a hip bass oine on the synthy pulse of “Cabbage”. Tenny’s horn sizzles through the soulful groove of “Broad Rack” and his tenor sax digs deep on Harrison’s slick and well paved Rhodes on “Frontline” after a space cadet of an intro. Fly Anakin and Tenny rap out “For The City” with the latter laying out some street poetry on the urban title track. The Afro Sheen shines in Richmond.
