On this “live” recording, the Jazz Composers Alliance stays on course of its statement of purpose to “support, develop and promote the art of jazz composition” combining a rich 21 piece orchestra along with vocalist and guest by the Strings Theory Trio. The songs range from a fairly concise 6 minute “Super Eyes-Private Heroes” with plenty of freedom to a 19 minute “A Wallflower In The Amazon” that is filled with tentative pulses, operatic voices and brooding atmospheres. Gypsy toned strings create mysterious atmospheres on Romanople” and some rich section work created by the saxes on “The Sixth Snake”. The rhythm section slithers with vocalist Rebecca Shrimpton on “The Latest” and some creative woodwinds float on “Orange, Yellow, Blue”. Loves of rich portraits and mixtures of hues.
