German pianist Michael Wollny goes solo as he mixes his own compositions as well as those as far ranging as Alban Berg to Tori Amos.
His touch is warm and classical sounding, trickling on Beethoven-esque material such as “Lunar Landscape” and “Mercury” with other moments reflecting Eric Satie as on “Sonatine Nr. 7, 2. Satz”. Things get a bit on the dark side of spirituality with “Father Lucifer” getting elliptical and ominous, “Enter Three Witches” and filled with eerie darkness. Going planetary, Wollny does dots and dashes on “The Rain Never Stops On Venus” and is warm and reflective on “Mercury”. The pieces are a clever mix of sepia tones and reflections showing a performer with many trails in which to stroll.
