Guitarist and vocalist Cory Wong creates pastoral moods with support of strings, woodwinds and soft rhythms on this followup to his previous Dawn album. The mix of guitar and the Quartet of Laurie Petruconis/vi, Allison Ostrander/vi, Susan Janda/fa and Re becca Arons/cel create sublime Appalachian atmospheres on “Tomorrow and Forever” and they have Phoebe Katis “ooh” by the campfire on “One Man’s Treasure” . Wong plays guitar, the mandolin-like reuqinto and bass as he jigs with Kevin Gasonguay/p, Petar Janjic/dr and Steve Gould on the chiming “First Time I Saw The Milky Way” and his voice has a nice mellow tone on a straight read of The Beatles’ “Blackbird”. Dan Musselman adds dainty piano work as the team flutters on “The Life Cycle of a Butterfly” and Sam Greenfield adds gentle clarinet to the panoramic strings of “Trail End”. Simple graces.
