It makes sense that vocalist Clifton Davis would include Take Six as guests on a track, the pretty and lyrical title track. His voice has that same soft velvety sound, with just a dash of church and a hint of suave late night club. Along with pianist Beegie Adair’s trio of bassist Roger Spencer, drummer Chris Brown and a cameo list of guests, Davis softly croons with a relaxing timber, making James Taylor seem like a fidget on delicate pieces like the soft samba of “Somewhere In The Hills” and the intimate “Teach Me Tonight”. Davis and Adair come off like the halcyon days of Nat Cole on the suave “I’ve Never Been In Love Before” and relaxed “Too Marvelous For Words”. He duets well with Monica Raimey during “Two For The Road” and you can almost touch his voice on his palpably warm “Swept Away”. Well worn slippers of sound.
