Blake Aaron: Color and Passion

Guitarist and composer Blake Aaron delivers a modern mix of jazz and smooth R&B on this upbeat collection of mostly originals. The one cover is a tropical and fun read of Stevie Wonder’s hit “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing” that spotlights Kim Scott breezing through on the flute. Aaron delivers a lion’s share of the keyboards and drum programing, sometimes bringing in drummer Tony Moore, a rotating team of bassists and some hip horns for pieces like the soulful “fall For You” and upbeat “Groovers and Shakers” which includes guest Darren Rahn on the bruising tenor sax. Aaron shows some nice flamenco sketches on “Riviera Nights’ and the synthy strings create a mellow tone on “Color and  Passion”. The team chugs out a reggae’d beat on “ Weekend In Paradise” and Aaron taps into his inner George Benson while joined by Najee on tenor sax and flute for a snappy “Sunday Strut”. Polished for a slick glide!
