Indie-toned vocalist Aimee-Jo Benoit leads her band of Robin Tufts/dr, Sheldon Zandboer/p and Simon Fisk/b through some personal readings of standards and modern musings. Piano and brushes create a chamber mood for Benoit on a bohemian read of Kurt Cobain’s “All Apologize” while she uses space cleverly on Burt Bacharach’s “Alfie”. She voice can get high pitched on the artsy “Repetition” while she asserts herself while scatting over the cantering pulse and Zandboer’s full fisted work on Joni Mitchell’s “This Flight Tonight”. At times, her tone is reminiscent of Zoe DeSchanel, taking you on a journey for “One More Color” and wafting through the tropical soul o “Exquisite Corpse”. Art Gallery sounds.
