The Moore-McColl Jazz Society: Electric Fantastic

Beth Moore handles most of the warm and earthy vocals while playing various keyboards and handling the STAXY horn arrangements, while Chance McColl riffs on the guitar and does a few cameo vocals while leading a team of Joel Morris/dr, Tim Aucoin/b, Caleb Lattimore/tp, Christopher Alpier/ts and Declan Word/as through some swampy originals and a cover. Moore’s B3 hums as the team rocks on “Electric Fantastic while the upbeat horns lead by Lattimore as Moore’s voice is alluring on “Like a Symphony” and displays wanderlust on a take of Supertramp’s “The Logical Song”. McColl sounds a bit like Dr. John within his searing guitar working out the swamp feel on “If You Really Loved Me” while his guitar supplies Chuck  Berry riffs on the boogie-ing “800 East” that has Alpier’s tenor chugging like aV8. The team sounds gospel inflected with a rich Nashville skyline on “I Remember Danny Gatton” with McColl supplying some inspired soloing by the juke joint legend, while Moore supplies thoughtful piano on the closing “Words”. Homespun homilies.
