Pianist/composer Michael Silverman has made an impressive career out of recording pieces for film and TV, including productions as “The Good Wife” and “Two and a Half Men”. An enviable position ofr any musician, and now he delves into his true love, jazz, with this upbeat contemporary sounding album teamed with fusion-meister Jeff Lorber along with all stars Vinnie Colaiuta/dr, Jimmy Hasip/b, Gary Novak/dr, Michael Thompson/g and David Benoit/p among others. The result is a collection of tunes that sound like they could easily fit into a soundtrack or smooth jazz fest.
The keys get soulful on funky tunes such as “Very Soon” and with some hip bass lines by Haslip on the chordy “Keys to the City”. Echoes of Windham Hill’s New Age impressionism is felt on the synthy “Stolen Moments” and the pretty “Guardian Angel” with the team digging in with some heated drumming on “Very Soon”. Engaging and thoughtful, all that is missing is the film.
