Keyboardist and composer Jesse Fischer creates rich and dramatic post bop material with a key team of Billy Buss/tp, Godwin Louis/ss-as, Morgan Guerin/ts-EWI, Jordan Peters/g, David Cutler/b, Obed Calvaire/dr, Keita Ogawa/perc and various special guests. Trumpet star Christian Scott lends his emotive horn to the dramatic and pleading title piece, and the lithe harmonica of Gregoire Maret graces a languid “The Wanderer”. Fischer shows some funky keyboard work on the soulful “Play Date” featuring Buss’ trumpet and Peters’ slick guitar, while Becca Stevens delivers poetic phrases on “Push/Pull”. The environments vary, with even some warm tropics on “Meditation On Peace”, but the mood is mostly lyrical and thoughtfully expressive.
