Brian Cullman: Winter Clothes

Brian Cullman sings and plays guitar with a pop-rockish team of Jimi Zhivago/g-mand-org-p, Byron Isaacs/b, Glenn Patscha/p, Chris Heinz/dr and various guests on this collection of mostly originals. At times, the chiming guitars and peppy moods are reminiscent of vintage Supertramp as on “Killing The Dead” and the searing “Down Down Down” with searing guitar work by Zhivago. Other times, you feel like it’s a Three Dog Night with the keyboards on “New Years Eve” while Cullman himself sounds a bit like Leo Sayer on the sliding guitar of “Sleep It Off” or the tender “Coffee” with some wonderful mandolin work by Zhivago. Along with some 70s wah-wah guitar on “Wrong Birthday’, you get some deep reflections on the thoughtful “As A Man Gets Older” and on the harrowing “Building”. The days of the singer/songwriter return.
