Detroit bred tenor and alto saxist Benny Rubin delivers some soulful post bop with his team of ianist Lex Korten, bassist Adam Olszewki and drummer JK Kim for a mix of originals and modern melodies. On alto, he has a fun ride on Horace Silver’s vintage “Kiss Me Right” while his tenor glows on a rich take of “Darn That Dream”. His own material ranges from a drenched in blue “Know” to a dark “Say” with an aria of a bel canto deliver on “Or See” with Olszewki adding a jivey beat to the hepster “Kown They Go”. The team stretches out for a couple of the pieces, with some nice full fisted work by Korten on “Flint Water Crisis”. Strong motor city madness.
