Cool tones and rich palpations abound with leader Diego Urcola on trumpet and flugelhorn, directing traffic with his team of drummer Eric Doob, bassist Hamish Smith and guest all star Paquito D’Rivera on clarinet and alto sax. The two horns bound sublimely on the title piece, flowing like lava over Smith’s line on “Tango Azul” and joyfully bopping on the standard “Con Alma”. Doob’s snapps to the bright and brash “The Natural” and takes the baton from Smith on the toe tapping “Fox Trot”. On the woody clarinet, D’Rivera glistens as he strolls with Smith on”Pekin” and lopes on “Buenos Aires”. The mix of bebop and South American musical concepts make for a glorious meal of flavorful sounds.
