TENOR TIME…Gregory Dudzienski Quartet: Beautiful Moments

As soon as you put on this impressive album by Gregory Dudienski, you’re going to ask yourself, “OK, who is he reminding me of?”, but you don’t have to go to far, as the first song’s title gives it all away. “Dexter’s Laboratory” has Dudzienski delivery a Gordonesque strong, confident and yet relaxed tone, as he’s backed by pianist Chris White, bassist Kelly Sill and drummer Stitely on this collection of originals. As with all things Dexter, Dudzienski sounds best on big toned relaxed swingers, hip to Stitely’s cymbals on “See, I Told You” and calm and collected to White’s Tyneresque chordings on “Yellow Alley”. The team does a rich rubato that sustains the passionate tension on “Meeting Your Heroes”  while they gallop softly on “Tom-Ish”. Long Tall Duzienski.
