Guitarist Noshir Mody subtitles this album “Identity , Love and Hope in America 2020”, with some poignant lyrics sung by Kate Victor on a few of the tunes to focus the direction of the attitude. Of the vocal pieces, Victor is impressionistic, teaming with the team of Mody on electric guitar and Mike Mullan/sax, Benjamin Hankle/tp-fh, Campbell Charsee/p, Yuka Tadano/b and Jerrett Walser/dr on the pretty “Illusion’s Grow” while the Spartan “Illustrating ‘Rise’” is a folksy duet with Mody on acoustic guitar. Mullan’s tenor is breathy and modern as the team cascades on the post bopping “Radha” and Charshee shines on “Under A Starlit Sky”. Mody’s guitar is pencil thin and concise sounding, Metheny-esque on “Ol’ Splitfoot” and warm on “Rise” with Victor in the group setting. The team is excellent at creating pastoral moods with modern colors, and the message is an encouraging ones during trying times.
