A power organ trio with all star keyboardist John Medeski, hard hitting Jeff Cosgrove and big-toned tenor Jeff Lederer (also on soprano, clarinet and flute) make for a room-filling encounter of sound. Ledere’s tenor packs a big punch on the thick and blue “O’Neal’s Porch” and creates a dark shadow over Cosgrove’s brushes on “Corn Meal Dance” as the team lumbers through Medeski’s fog on “Gospel Flowers”. The Leslie’s get deep on the ominous “Ghost” with some clean clarinet, with drama produced by Lederer’s soprano on “Purcell’s Lament”, and the band getting quirky as they ricochet around on “Things Fall Apart”. Palpable sounds.
