Pianist and arranger Chris Rottmayer and his team of electric bassist/arranger Chuck Archard and drummer Keith Wilson team up with the girl-next-door voice of Ashley Locheed for some clever rethinking of some American Songbook and Boomer tunes. Wilson and Archard combine to give an extra bite to the beat, as they rock it a bit for Locheed’s urgent read of one take of “So In Love” while a second take displays a more impressionistic milieu. Rottmeyer gives a nightclub feel to Christopher Cross’ “Sailing” as Locheed glows on the aria, bearing her soul to the backbeat of “La Vie En Rose”. The piano/voice intro to “I Love Paris” flows like syrup out of the bottle, while the team sashays on a samba read of “Day In, Day Out”. Standard outfits, but with new pumps.
