Sophie Tassignon creates ominous and ethereal moods a la vintage Nico with a tone like June Tabor on this album that has her voice in solo and multi-tracked mode accompanied by her synthesizer. Her voice reaches deep into subtones on the dark “Witches” while echoing on the liturgical “Gubi Okayannie”. Seagulls flock as she recites poetry on “Jolene” and her voice teams with the electronics to create ambient moods on “La Nuit” and “Cum Dederit”. She puffs out the rhythm on a bouncy “Don’t Be So Shy With Me” and the texture of voices almost sound like a Queen album on the title pieces. A fog well suited for a scene from Hound of the Baskervilles.
