The La Lucha trio of John C. O’Leary III/p, Alejandro Arenas/b and Mark Feinman/dr mix and match with a delightful array of guest on this seamless tapestry of sounds. They do a sole piece without any accompaniment and they show their wares well as they gracefully cadence on “The Sundering”. Bring in the warm tone of Ken Peplowski’s clarinet, and you get soft pastels on “Don’t Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder)”, and with the addition of Brazilian guitarist Diego Figuerido, there’s the gentle flow of “Pr La Tarde”. Throw in Chuck Redd’s vibes and Thom Beemer’s voice and you’re set for an irresistible bossa on “Samba Pra Diego”. Breathy tenor man Houston Person blows in like a fog for a hip hugger on “Blues For Houston Person” with Melissa Aldana creating sleek shades on a post bopper “1+2”. The cut and paste works like colors in a mosaic, with an overall picture that is suitable for framing.
