Compositions by tenor saxist and composer Quinsin Nachoff are filled with moments of classical tendencies along with sweeping soundtrack emulations on this album of interpretations ranging form string quartet to full orchestra.
The Molinari String Quartet is featured on a four piece selection of tunes between 3-5 minutes with harmonies reminiscent of vintage Bartok as well as modern ominous forebodings with hovering strings ending in a harrowing climax. Solo violinist Nathalie Bonin is spotlighted on a three movement Violin Concert that includes Old World sensibilities and textures, with her bright and dramatic flair sweeping over flutes and percussion on the climactic Third Movement. The fifteen minute “Pivotal Arc” is a Coplandesque affair with rich trumpet moments by Jocelyn Couture and some exciting percussion provided by Satoshi Takeishi. The feel is leaning towards early modern classical, filled with visceral energy and sophisticated intricate passions.
