Peggy Lee: The Ultimate Peggy Lee

Vocalist Peggy Lee was “ultimate” in many ways, as she was able to score hits in almost every decade and musical style. This 22 song retrospective covers here vocal and career range, including the big hits like the sultry “Fever”, the desultory “Black Coffee” as well as the iconic “is That All There Is”. She also embodied the sunshine of California as on the cheery “It’s A Good Day”, and since she started out with Benny Goodman, she sure knew how to swing, exemplified on “I Love Being Here With You” and “Things Are Swinging” while hitting it hard on “Alright, Okay, You Win” with Bill Holman’s charts. Her first hit, with Goodman himself, “Why Don’t You Do Right”, still sounds fresh, and her read of the Disney tune “He’s A Tramp” stands up amazingly well. A chameleon of styles who always sounded like herself.
