Guitarist Matt Gold creates moods ranging from 50s rock to pastoral folk on this album with Bryan Doherty/b, Jeremy Cunningham/dr as a core team with guests on vocals, violin, synthesizer and bass. Hints of Dick Dale or The Ventures are felt with backing work by Dan Pierson on the rocking “Augusta Fairgrounds” and the echoey impressionistic “Crimes”. Indie sounds with poetic vocals from Macie Stewart on “Queen Anne” and the ethereal “Petrichor” with Gold on acoustic guitar with vocalist Sara Serpa create dreamy atmospheres. Dashes of John Renbourn or Bert Jansch in a pastoral mood are drawn out by Gold’s acoustic guitar on “Truehearted” and the folksy “Dollarama” while Gold rocks the blues on “Bottom of the Barrell”. Wide colors from six strings.
