Antonio Adolfo: BruMa-Celebrating Milton Nascimento

Pianist Antonio Adolfo shows good taste in both playing, arranging and selection of material by focusing on the songbook of legendary Milton Nascimento. Adolfo mixes and matches horns, percussion and guitars with a core team of bassist Jorge Helder, drummer Rafael Barata and percussionist Dada Costa. The trio gets a hip pulse out of “Fe Cega Faca Amolada” along with Steely Dan-ish horns and Claudio S piewak’s guitar, while some Brecker Brothers-styled horns heat up with Adolfo galloping through the upbeat  “Tres Pontas”. A bright Caribbean “Cancao Do Sal” features Barata’s relentless drumming , and the team gets R&B mooded for a soulful “Nada Sera Como Antes”.  Jesse Sadoc’s trumpet is romantic as Adolfo caresses the ivories for “Enontros E Despedidas” and the leader slinks and sways to “Cais”. Rich pulsations like the tide rolling in.
