Florian Ross Quartet: Reason & Temptation

Pianist Florian Ross focuses on soft and impressionistic moods with his team of Sebastian Gille/as, David  Helm/b and Fabian Arends/dr on thirteen originals. At their best, as on the flowing “Reckoning” and lovely “Rondo #4”, Ross is Chopinesque in his romantic melodies, with Gille adding pastel tones and the rhythm team rippling like a gentle creek. Gille is dreamy on “Progress Report” and fragile during “Dandelion” with the team a bit fragmented on “ Teriyaki Terrier” and eerie on the dark shadowed “Ignorance Or Bliss”. Helm gets a chance to stand out on the nocturnal “Make A Swish” with Ross most assertive during “Broomstick”. Half moon at Givenchy.
