This dvd captures Waylon Jennings riding high in 1978 after having released important albums such as Honky Tonk Heroes, This Time, The Ramblin’ Man, Dreaming My Dreams and the popular Wanted! The Outlaws. He and his band are in an upbeat mood at the Grand Ol’ Opry, and besides the set list of “Are You Ready For The Country?”, “Amanda”, “Luckenback, Texas,” “Honky Tonk Heroes” and “I’ve Always Been Crazy”, you get Waylon interspersing commentary on his career, giving insight to some of the songs, and appreciation for the success he’d encountered as a performer. I saw Jennings during this tour, and he musically personified the rebellion against the sterile Nashville sound of the time. Along as an extra bonus, there is a “Friends Remember The Outlaw” section that has 1990 interviews with the likes of George Jones, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson as well as veteran Jennings drummer Richie Albright. Anyone who’s worn faded blue jeans will want this one.
