Tenor saxist Harrison Argatoff literally takes it to the streets as he takes the role of the sax players that you pass by at street markets or corners and gives a solo symphony. You can detect the background sounds of the Toronto streets, adding to the atmosphere. You don’t get standards, as you do from most artists of this kind, as Argatoff delivers originals and a traditional Russian theme (“White Acacia”), all in a relaxed and unrushed pace. Most of the pieces, such as “Wait” and the long toned “Flicker” are reflective and patient, with rich subtones introducing many of the themes such as “I Have Started” and the dreamy “Rainfall”. His sound is strong and confident, and the entire idea, concept and delivery is a work of true bohemian art. Throw a dollar into his sax case and take it in for a few moments!
