Robert Dick plays a bunch of flutes and piccolo, Joelle Leandre is on bass with contributing voice with Miya Masaoka on koto and percussion for twelve sonic experimens. You get wispy blowing and big winds on “Whispering In The Stars”, screams and eerie chimes for “Speed of Silence” gurgling like the La Brea Tarpits for “How Old Is Your Shadow” and songs that sound like “tune-ning” on “Adiabatic” or “Chronotype”. Cat scratch fever?
Mya Masaoka plays 21 string koto, Zeena parkins is on electronic harp and electronics and Myra Melford performs on acoustic and prepared piano for ten sessions of thrashing and crashing. I wonder why the notes emphasize that Masaoka plays 21 strings, as she could have accomplished everything with half of them as she jabs and picks through “Red Spider” while there are sonic burps, slashes and things that go bump in the night for “Eight-burst” and the 10 car pileup of “Spiral”. Did someone’s cat jump on a bunch of hot coals for the catatonic “Rosette”? Next time get a policeman to do some traffic and crowd control!
