Gerald Levinson: Now Your Colors Sing

Modern classical tones and fragrances are produced by the pen of Gerald Levinson and performed in a variety of settings ranging from solo piano to orchestra and voice. Under the baton of Hugh Wolff,  Frankfurt Radio Symphony brings forth a Stravinsky-esque “Avatar” with sweeping harmonies and they symphony “Anahata” filled with bold and brassy accents. Luminous string and percussion are delivered by the Network For New Music Ensemble conducted by Jan Kryzwicki, with a four part “In Dark” featuring the crystalline voice of Carmen  Pelton bringing for text amidst ominous strings and woodwinds.

On the keyboard side of things, Oliver Latry makes the organ pipes create film noir dynamics on “Au Coeur De L’infini” while on solo piano Marcantonio Barone gives a dramatic “Chorale For Nanine , With Birds” and prismatic “Musiques Nocturnes”. The two disc set gives evidence that not all things modern and forward thinking equal cacophony and self-indulgence. Modern sounds of accessibility
