Dylan Hayes Electric Band: Songs For Rooms and People

Playing piano, keyboards, key bass and synthesizer, Dylan Hayes sounds like a modernized Weather Report on this fusiony album teamed with a hard hitting rhythm team of Xavier Lecouturier/dr and Tim Carey/eb with a front line of Jay Thomas/tp, Santosh Sharma/ts-EWI and guest Nicole McCabe. The pieces are mostly originals, with the exception being a hip bop read of “Poinciana” that has Thomas and Sharma in glowing  brass modes. When Hayes plugs in, he can be upbeat with some sizzling EWI on “201” our soulful with McCabe on the oohing tones of “203” while splashing away on “All Lit Up Interlude” His piano work is snappy on the pot bop “Neo” with Thomas and Carey displaying wise use of their solo space, while “Song For E” is a sensuous sizzler. Plugged in effects are reminiscent of Zawinul Circuit on “Trio Mood One” and “Nellies” a thoughtful mix of tones. Heavy Weather!
