While vibist Warren Wolf may have a hard time selling the idea of reincarnation in an age of 7 billion, but the Christian Scott alumnus has no trouble getting a thumbs up on this album that mixes jazz with R&B and a dash of Soul Train.
Wolf passes the good vibes around by enlisting Don Cornelius-sounding vocalist Marcellus Shepard, and he’s as smooth as a Barry White single on “Smooth Intro/Outro” and the Love Unlimited “Sebastian and Zoe” and the “love ya, baby” of “In The Heat of the Night”. Imani-grace Cooper coos like McCoo on the pretty “For The Love Of You” and cozy “Livin’ The Good Life”. As for instrumentals, there is a delicious duet with pianist Bret Williams on “Come and Dance With Me” and a pastoral “Vahybing” featuring some rich electric bass work by the nimble “Richie Goods”. Modern jazz with a disco ball.
