The trio of Marc Seales/p, Doug Miller/b and John Bishop bring in tenor titan Ernie Watts for half of the sublime post bop tunes on this sophisticatedly swinging album. In the three man format, Seales taps into his inner Hancock for a hip take of “I Have A Dream” and gives a hint of Coltrane’s classic ballads on “My One And Only Love” with a graceful flow on “So Near, So Far.” With the muscular tenorist, the team gives a rich bop to Seales’ “Blue” an easy swing to “Speakin’ Out” and goes soft and warm to Bishop’s brushes on “Apparitions”. Solid as a rich oak.
