Bassist Mark Godfrey creates a loosely swinging rhythm team with drummer Nick Fraser and pianist Chris Pruden in support of the rich reeds supplied by tenor saxist Matt Worshyl and altoist Allison Au on this collection of originals. The two saxes create floating clouds as on the spacious “Black Stars” and get quite lyrical on the soulful “Mcduff” while riding the free form support on the thickly textured Skyline”. Godfrey paves the way on the modal march of “U.S.S. Rent-A-Car” featuring Worshyl with Pruden leads the cadence on for the breathy Au on “Skyline”. Lyrical, intuitive yet held together by the two-strong chords of saxes.
