Avishai Cohen uses his rich toned horn to lead a band that sounds like it’s an indie rocker as he teams up with guitarist Ui Ramirez, bassist/guitarist Yonathan Albalak, and drummers Aviv Cohen with Ziv Ravitz, the latter also bringing in some live sampling to create atmospheres with the leader’s delving into electronica as well.
The rhythm team gives forward pulses, but with a rock beat as Cohen’s horn gives echoes and “Teardrop” and with liquid guitars dripping on “Intent” and the trudging “Teno Nevo”. Ramirez taps into his inner Eddie Cochran on the 50s ax work of “ King Kutner” with some pulsating bass by Albalak, and even more eyebrow raising is a reworking of Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” that has screeching cymbals, reverberating guitar and dark plodding pulse while Cohen rides over like a long boarder. Definitely creative, with a spontaneous garage feel. Who wore the leather jacket?
