Trombonist Audrey Ochoa leads a team with Chris Andrew/p-key, Sandro Dominelli/dr, Mike Lent/b and a mix of percussionists and strings on this post bop album. Her tone is warm and lyrical as the strings caress the clippety copp of “Swamp castles” while she plunges deep and growls with Lent on “My Reward”. Some Latin work on a soulful “Bunganga” and a relaxed “Benchwarming” features impressive work by Andrews, while the ballad “Groundhog Day” have piano and horn in a noir atmosphere. A synthy “The Huggy Dance” is a disco/R&B fun one, and the team highlights a “Postcards” with warm and heartfelt tonalities. A safe slide home.
