Some clever charts are put together for this big band led by Gordon Foote and anchored by the thick tones of baritone saxist Alex Manoukas. Some of the songs are familiar, such as “Take The A Train” and “Hi Fly”, but the arrangements are clever and sleek on the former and bopping on the latter. Pianist Anthony D’Alesandro gives an easy soul feel to “Over My Head” and the pastoral “Summer’s Over” with some rich reeds on “Medium Blue” and breezy brushes by drummer Jacob Slous on “Undiagnosed” before the team burns hard on the modal “Embargo”.
