Guitarist Forrest McDonald leads a blueswailing band featuring the rich and hearty vocals on Andrew Black supported by a core of Lee Gammon/b, John McKinght/dr, Matthew Wauchope/p-org and a STAXY horn section on 11 juke jointing originals.
The Crescent City beat is infectious as Black paints it blue on “Boogie Me Till I Drop” and the funky “Blues In The Bucket” with some nice keyboard work by Wauchope. A smoky organ creates a fog that McDonald’s guitar cuts through on the dark “Blues In The Basement” and a trip to Chicago’s South Side takes you to a low ceilinged club on the earthy “Windy City Blues”. Gammon delivers a funky line n”Go To The Light” and the team gets stark n the ballad “Blue Morning Sun” with Black baring his soul. The team gets fun with some deep reeds on “Let the Love in Your Heart” and McDonald presses the wacka-wooka button on the soul train for “Going Back to Memphis”. A dry rub special.
