The pen of Stanley Grill is put to music by the Camerata Philadelphia conducted by Stephen Framil (who also plays cello), joined by appearances by Brett Douglas Deubner on viola and guest soprano Peggy Pei-Ju Yu. There are three main pieces here, all rich in textures and giving hints to the sweeping moods a la Ralph Vaughan Williams. “The Four Elements” teams a quartet of tunes (Earth, Air, Water, Fire) to dreamy soundscapes, prancing strings and pastoral viola soloing leading the way over the supporting strings. An ebullient “Pavanne To A World Without War” features wonderful woven strings creating modern tones a la Benjamin Britten. A two movement “In Praise Of Reason” features tranquil horns by Trish Giangiulio and Jonathan Clark guiding the way for Stephen Framil’s alluring and yearning cello. The eight piece “Mystical Songs” mixes folk tunes and pastoral strings supplied by Deubner with Yu’s ethereal voice on the songs with a graceful operatic note. Celestial seasonings.
