Pablo Held: Ascent

Pianist and composer Pablo Held brings together an impressionistic tem of Robert Landfermann/b, Jonas Burgwinkel/dr, Nelson Veras/g and a pair of cameo guests on this pretty and elliptical collection of pieces. The team shows its elliptical colors on “Unlocking Mechanism”  with some clever soloing on guitar and piano over Landfermann’s rich bass on “Dikkedeo”. Held leads a dance on “Musica Callada” and the team flexes its collective muscles with the voice of Veronika Morscher on the artsy “Forest Spirits” and the assertive post bopper “Ascent.” Burgwinkel’s drums snap along with Jeremy Viner’s clarinet on the catchy take of Thelonious Monk’s “52nd Street Theme” and leads a graceful waltz on “Seizing”. The team sounds collective, as you cannot tell who the leader is; all contribute to the whole.
