Wonderful Acadian sounds come from Michael Doucet, who sings with a rich leathered voice and plays fiddle and mandolin with heart and soul. He’s teamed with a core of Chad Viator/g, Sarah Quintana/g, Chris French/b and Jim Kolacek/dr along with a collection of guests, most notably the Turtle Island String Quartet on the classically leaning “Cajun Gypsy.” Reese Wynan takes time off from Joe Bonamassa to bring some organ to the folksy “Bad Woman” which has fun unison voice and guitar as well as the fun boogieing “Lula Lula Don’t You Go to Bingo”. Two step stompers abound with a partner grabbing “Water, Water” and “Marie Catin” while Doucet takes his voice down a step with his vibrato contrasting with the guitar droplets on “Abandonne” to rich delight. His French singing on the waltzing “Dites Moi Poise” is a treat while he gives a tale of woe on the ominous “Walking On A Mardi Gras Day”. A collection of bon mots.
