Some nice gritty vocals are produced by Louise Cappi as she’s backed by a Memphis stewed team of Jenna McSwain-Paul Lonstreth/p-key, cali Millington-Dean Zucchero-David Hyde/b, AJ Hall-Pierre Menefield/dr, Alex Krahe/g, and some guests on horns. Some funky soul a la a vintage STAX session takes place with Cappi belting out a medley of “Chain of Fools/Unchain My Heart” with foot stomping abandon. She slinks on a relaxing “Talk To Me” and is in a seductive mood on “Feel Like Makin’ Love” and “Let’s Make Love” with some nice accompaniment by Russell Ramirez on the latter. She’s relaxed and casual while in a strong voice during “Summertime” and tender for a reflective “It Is What It Is” while a gospel-ish “Bella Nola” shows her able to be vulnerable and yet indestructible. Formidable form.
