Satoko Fujii leads a freewheeling 13 member orchestra that includes all stars Tony Malaby/ts, Joe Fielder/tb and Nels Cline/g through 5 wild and whooly intuitive compositions. Ches Smith’s hard rock drumming pushes through the thick splaltering horns and acid rick guitar on the title track, while trudging on the fragile guitar and hovering reeds on “Gounkaiku”. Fielder’s trombone pulses to chinking trumpets while Stomu Takeishi’s bass plucks and pecks through “Everlasting” with gurgling saxes and horns sounds akin to an angry mob in a Frank Capra movie shouting for justice on “Elementary Particle”. Must be fun to watch in concert, but a map is needed for simply sonic appreciation.
