Ron Burris: Mr. Cool

Warm toned saxist Ron Burris plays tenor, alto and soprano with a team of Leo Cavanaugh/g, Wayne De La Cruz/key, Steve Webber/b, Evan Carr/dr, Ron Carson/perc and guest Laurice McCoy-Ozyuwah. On soprano, he sounds like a young Coltrane as he  cruises over Webber’s nifty bass line on “Mood For Hank” and he floats with Cavanaugh on a joyful read of Sam Cooke’s “You Send Me” while doing the Bunsen burner on a hip take of Coltrane’s “Mr.  PC.” His alto is relaxed on the title track and rolls lke a Cannonball on the joyous “Alto Samba” with his tenor cheerful on “Song For Tanya.” McCoy-Ozyuwah is rich voiced along with a fluid De La Cruz on “Ms. Lillian B” rounding off a set that is a smile maker.
