Kyle Eastwood: Cinematic

Hard bopping bassist Kyle Eastwood uses his working team of Quentin Collins/tp, Brandon Allen/ts-ss, Andrew McCormack/p and Chris Higginbottom/dr for some swinging and clever arrangements of soundtracks. Only a couple are from movies that he’s actually been involved with, being deferential in giving space to icons like Lalo Schifrin in a hip read of “Bullitt” and having Allen’s soprano team with Collins’ muted horn on a noir sounding “Taxi Driver.” In a trio setting, he’s reflective on “Per Le Antiche Scale” while in the spotlight with his electric bass he does some wondrous textures on his own ‘Unforgiven-Claudia’s Theme.” Guest vocals by Camille Bertault on “Les Moulins De Mon Coer” (aka “The Windmills Of Your Mind”) and the rich toned Hugh Coltman teamed with McCormack on “Gran Torino” make for some rich dimensions on “The Eiger Sanction.” Eastman is one of the few artists left that keeps his feet  planted in the tradition while also looking for fresh soils in which to plant.
