Toni Germani plays tenor and alto sax along with adding vocals on this quartet albu with Gege Albanese/p-key, Stefano Cesare/b and Davide Pentassuglia/dr. The album is dedicated to “all the victims of racism and exploitation…in Palestine and in other oppressed lands,” meaning that, like all Millennials, the problem is other people and not themselves, but we can still self-flagellate.
Musically, Germani’s tenor is warm on the lilting “Heat Hot,” rich and patient with voice and Albanese’s piano on a clever medley that includes Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower” and soulful along with Pentassuglia’s drums on ”Il Canto Libero.” A pretty “Ricordando/Luiza” features a melancholy tenor and bass, and Italian lyrics on “Mi Piace Aspettare” includes screeching sax along with passionate accompaniment. Justification by feeling guilty?
