Ok, almost all you need to know about The Jimmys is that in the liner notes it says that they are sponsored by both Jose Cuervo and Hammond. Now THAT’S an attitude!
Jimmy Vogel plays Hammond B3 (duh!) and clarinet, sharing the vocals with the rougher and ready guitarist Perry Weber, with a rhythm section of John Wartenweiler/b and Tony Braunagel/dr and goosed up by a five member horn section. Weber’s got a voice akin to Steve Marriott as he growls on a boogieing “Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet” and a swampy “Started Up Again.” Voegeli gets fun and funky with the Hammond on “Jose” and takes you down Noir Alley with the horns on a R&Bish “Grim Reaper.” The band mixes things up with a gospel groove on “Someday Baby” and they take a drive to Kansas City on the steady beat of “Hotel Stebbins” with a side trip to New Orleans on “When You Got Love.” The band is in overdrive all alone the blue highway.
