Pianist supreme Roberta Piket continues her musical relationship with Billy Mintz even when going solo in piano, as she dedicates this latest album to interpretations of his compositions. Piket has a rich and classy touch, reflective and deeply resonant on themes such as “Ghost Sanctuary” and graceful on “Flight.” She can go full-fisted on “Blinds Eye” and is Monkishly playful on the sin-songy “Ugly Beautiful”. The tribute “Cannonball” is a soulful delight, and “Beautiful You” has a Bill Evans clarity and harmonization that is lacking in so many of today’s artists. This lady, and this album, are both keepers.
