Pianist Marta Sanchez leads a two sax quintet with Roman Filiu’s alto and Chris Cheek’s tenor in the front line supported by the fluid bassist Rick Rosato and drummer Daniel Dor. The double reeded harmony glides well in unison on pieces like “Cascadas” while forming a thick and dark cloud on “Dead Flowers” and the melancholy “Nenufar.” Sanchez’s piano creates deep lines on the latter and pungent remarks on the former, while giving a nice clippety clop in teamwork with the rhythm section on the whimsical “El Rayo De Luz.” Dor marches the team to step lively as the reeds brighten up for “El Cambo” and trudge through the sliding “Parmesano.” Slipping and slithering sounds of the two horns make for fluid moments and moods.
