Guitarist Jim Robitaille creates a Jim Hall-inspired quartet with sax icon Dave Liebman along with Tony Marino/b and Alex Ritz/dr through a mix of cool heat. On electric guitar, Robitaille’s sleek tone is perfectly foiled by Liebman’s urgent tenor sax on the driving title track, the kinetic “Point of Origin” and snappy “Touch and Go” with Liebman creating some clever harmonics during “What Is This Thing Called Love?”. Robitaille delivers some warm nylon string work as well, giving a Latin pulse to Liebman’s soprano sax for “Nightfall” and tender during “Opaque” while back on electric relaxing to Marino’s bass on “Spatial” and gliding over the thick pulse for “Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise.” Icy hot.
