Two artists united by letter and lore…
Singer/songwriter Chris Catalena teams up with Nate Ryan, Nick Murray, Jordan Odom, Kyle Mullarky, Ryan Rapsys and Sean Caffey for some down home folksy country on this latest album. His voice is laconic as is his delivery on tales such as “Little Thread” and he’s as casual as if he’s standing on the bar stool right next to you on “Papas On A Rolling Stone.” The acoustic sound is vintage Old School and the feel is as unpretentious as your 10 year old Ford 150. A nice drive on a rural road.
Cass Clayton has a nice rich and relaxed voice, teaming up with a core group of Taylor Scott/g, Tom Amend-Jon Wirtz/key, Chris Harris/b, Larry Thompson/dr and a mix and match group of guest for a dozen originals. With Nic Clark’s harmonica, the earth tones of “Dawes County” sound full, and the humming Hammond give a funky feel to pieces like “ Little Things” with the added horns of Daryl Gott and Gabe Mervine. A 60s blue hue has a nice guitar lick on “Strange Conversation” and an R&B feel pulsates on the southern comfort of “Side” with a rich blue line for the title track. Cumberland gap modes.
